John "Jack" M. Clayton

John M. "Jack" Clayton, a beloved figure in the West Branch community, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at The Villa at Rose City. Born on October 17, 1944, in West Branch, Michigan, to James L. and Dorothy M. (Curtis) Clayton.

Jack devoted many years to his career, owning and operating Jack Clayton Construction, where his strong work ethic and dedication to quality earned him the respect of many. His commitment to his craft reflected his passion for building and creating, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

Outside of work, Jack had a wide array of hobbies and interests that enriched his life. He found joy in woodworking, fishing, and golfing, activities through which he fostered connections with friends and family alike. Jack’s warm spirit and engaging personality made him a cherished companion to many.

He is survived by his children: son John (Ann) Clayton of Gladwin, MI, and a daughter Holly (Brian) Brindley of West Branch, MI, as well as son Rusty (Ian) Matthew-Clayton. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Jacob Clayton, Kaleb Clayton, Kellen VonSteenburg, Boston Brindley, Greyson Brindley, Zackery (Amanda) Manning, Lucas Manning, Brooke Marsrow, and Maya Marsrow. Also surviving are siblings: brother Jim Clayton, sister Julie Globke, and sister Rose (Mark) DeMatio. He shared a special companionship with Donna Powers, who brought him joy in his later years. Jack is preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia Clayton, and his parents Jim and Dorothy Clayton, brothers Chuck Clayton and Thomas Clayton.

Jack's life will be honored during visitation services at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Homes - West Branch on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. His Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Friday, March 13, 2026 at the Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church in West Branch, visitation will be from from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the funeral. Pastor David Kurtz will officiate.

Jack will be remembered not only for his contributions to the local community, but also for the love and kindness he showed to all those around him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
