Joseph Warren Roush

Joseph Warren Roush, age 93, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Gladwin Pines Nursing Home in Gladwin, Michigan. He was born on October 9, 1930, in Harve, Montana, to Joseph and Clara (Spaberg) Roush, Sr. He spent the first few years of his childhood in Montana, then moved to Indiana and then to St. Helen, Michigan.


Joseph proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He met his first wife Lou Odine Spears during his time in the service. They were married for 50 years and raised three sons and one of their granddaughters.


Joseph dedicated 30 years of his life to teaching at an elementary school in Indiana. He also had a passion for fishing, golfing, baseball, reading, and writing.

After retiring from teaching, Joseph and his wife Lou moved back to St. Helen, Michigan in 1990. Joseph was a faithful member of St. Helen Community Baptist Church. After Lou passed away, Joseph married Faye Ruth Stewart. They were married for 20 years.


Joseph was also an esteemed member of American Legion Post #416 and served on the Charlton Heston Academy School Board in St. Helen. During his retirement, Joseph wrote and published five books. One book was about the founding of the Charlton Heston Academy in St. Helen, three were about his life and family, and one was a book of short stories.


Joseph will be deeply missed by his beloved wife Faye Roush, his sons Charles “Bill”, Joseph “Larry” (Jessica), and Mark (Jane) Roush, grandchildren Shawn, Andrew, Robert, Ronnie, and Tracy, great-grandchildren Evan, Austin, and Nevaeh, and sister Donna Palacios.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bill (William), his first wife Lou Roush, and daughter-in-law Deborah Roush.
