Karen Marie Munn, passed away at her home surrounded by family on June 6, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on March 7, 1943, in Grayling, MI, to Hans Ronnow Hanson and Marian (Reynolds) Hanson.
A proud graduate of Grayling High School in 1961, Karen went on to pursue her passion for nursing, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Munson School of Nursing in Traverse City in 1963. She dedicated herself to raising three children, then went back to school at Kirtland Community College to become a Registered Nurse, graduating in 1987. She worked as an LPN at Traverse City Munson Hospital, and later advancing to work as a Registered Nurse at Tolfree Memorial Hospital in West Branch from 1981 until approximately 1994. She then transitioned into home health care, where she continued to serve her community until her retirement in 2014.
Karen was not only respected for her professional accomplishments but was also deeply rooted in her community and faith. As a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church, she actively participated in the CCW and played the organ for many years, bringing music and joy to the congregants. Her commitment to her church and community was evident in all her endeavors. Karen’s life was filled with many interests, including gardening, reading, and a devoted fanhood of Tigers baseball.
In addition to her professional achievements, Karen took great pride in her family. She is survived by her daughter Sue (Jim) Johnson and her sons Jim (Dorothy) Munn and Dan (Jill) Munn. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Tyler (Elissa) Brindley, Makayla Brindley, Ayden Munn, Noah Munn, Keaton Munn, Cooper Munn, and Kedrick Munn. Also surviving is her dear lifelong friend Maggie Warner. Her legacy also includes her late grandson Carter Munn, who she cherished deeply, father Hans Ronnow Hanson, mother Marian Reynolds Hanson Packo, and stepfather John Packo.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. A Rosary service will be at 6:00 PM. The following day, Thursday June 12, 2025, there will be a visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, leading into the Funeral Mass. Father Al Pillarelli will officiate.
As we remember Karen Marie Munn, we honor her unwavering spirit, her dedication to her family, and the compassion she showed throughout her life. Her presence will be deeply missed in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
