Karen Ann Schmitt (LaLonde), age 82, of Lupton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on June 12, 2026. Born on February 9, 1944, Karen lived a life rooted in faith, family, creativity, and service. She has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior and has been reunited with those who preceded her in death: her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward Schmitt; her cherished granddaughter, Madelynn Margaret Tschiggfrey; and her parents, Helen and Lester LaLonde.

Karen spent most of her life between Saginaw County and Ogemaw County. Alongside her husband, Ed and their three girls, she helped build and operate Schmitt Dental Laboratory, where she played an important role in the family business. Following retirement, Karen and Ed settled into the cabin/home that Ed lovingly built for their family in 1983.

Karen also spent many treasured years in East Tawas, forever drawn to her favorite place, Tawas Point. The shores and waters of Lake Huron held a special place in her heart and provided her with peace, inspiration, and countless cherished memories.

Her love of adventure was evident through the many trips she enjoyed with her young family across the United States and later through her travels with Ed. Whether near or far, Karen found joy in experiencing God's creation and sharing those moments with the people she loved.

A gifted artist, Karen possessed many talents. She expressed her creativity through photography, painting, sewing, knitting, and writing. Of all her passions, her devotion to writing held a special place in her heart. Through her written devotions, she shared her unwavering faith and love of God with countless people throughout the years.

Karen's dedication to her faith extended beyond her writing. She served as Church Secretary at Faith Lutheran Church in Bridgeport and later at St. John's Lutheran Church in West Branch. She also faithfully served as Past Secretary of the Michigan Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML), supporting the organization's mission and ministry for many years.

Karen is survived by her loving daughters: Ann Schmitt; Vicki (Rich) Lewis; and Susan (Frank) Tschiggfrey. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Andrew, Steven, Amanda, and Justin; six great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Miles Market, 6235 Gratiot Rd, Saginaw, Michigan, 48638.
