Ken Maynard Jr., age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at The Villa at the Bay in Petoskey, Michigan. Born on July 22, 1952, in Warren, Michigan to Ken and Beverly (Haskin) Maynard, Ken lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a deep love for family, community, and the simple joys of the outdoors.

Ken’s journey carried him through a proud military service as a Vietnam Veteran with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, to a rewarding career at Chrysler. After 30 years of hard work, he retired in 2014, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and integrity. In 2016, he found his sanctuary in St. Helen, Michigan, where he embraced his retirement on 20 serene acres, a place where he could relish the outdoors and build lasting memories.

Known for his gentle spirit and exceptional ability with animals, Ken was a wonderful dog trainer and had a special bond with his pets, including his cherished dog Maggie May and his cats Freeway and Smokey. He carried forward this love of animals with grace and patience, qualities that extended into all areas of his life.

Over the course of 45 years, Ken brought joy to countless children as Santa Claus, a role he held with great pride and warmth. For Ken, the true magic was witnessing the happiness and wonder in every child’s eyes, a testament to his generous heart and playful soul.

Ken’s passions included boating, relaxing amid nature, riding his side-by-side vehicle, and embracing the spirit of adventure through baseball, snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He treasured his 1966 blue Chevelle and every August would take part in the car tour along Old 27, reveling in the spirit of nostalgia and community.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Gagnon Maynard, his daughter Kimberly, siblings James (Janet) Maynard, Robert Maynard, Barbara (Steve) Kauflin, and Lisa Robbins, as well as his uncles Billy, Walter, and Donald, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, carry forward his memory with love and respect.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and uncle Gene Haskin, and his cherished dog Ginny, all of whom he remembered fondly and missed dearly.

Ken Maynard Jr.’s life was one of service, kindness, and heartfelt connections. His legacy remains in the many lives he touched—with his family, friends, and community—leaving a lasting imprint of warmth and love.
