Kurt Eldon VonSteenburg

Kurt Eldon VonSteenburg, a lifelong resident of West Branch, MI, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Midland after a brief illness. He was 59.

He was born March 23, 1967, in Lapeer, the youngest child of Gordon and Myrna (Hulliberger) VonSteenburg.

Kurt attended public schools in West Branch, graduating from Ogemaw Heights High School in 1985.

An avid local athlete, he began in West Branch Little League and later became a 3-sport athlete at OHHS, in baseball, basketball and as quarterback in football.

After graduation he embarked on a decades-long career, working in sales throughout Ogemaw and surrounding counties. Kurt was also a lifelong hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by sons, Kellen and Griffin, both of West Branch, his father, Gordon of West Branch, a brother, Michael of Florida, three sisters, Kathy Lubelan of Gaylord, MI, Laura Wooley of Edgewater FL, Bethy Petteway of New Smyrna, FL, a niece, four nephews, and numerous others.

He was preceded in death in 2002 by his mother Myrna, in 1979 by his brother David, and in 2025 by his brother-in-law, John Wooley.

There will not be a service at this time.
