In loving memory of Malikai Giovanni Fend, affectionately known to all as Kai, who left this world far too soon after his two-year battle with Stage four bone cancer, at home surrounded by family on Friday, December 12, 2025. Born on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in Saginaw, Michigan, Kai’s kind soul and big heart brought joy to everyone who knew him.
Kai was a boy full of love and life. He enjoyed going to school, monster trucks and hot wheels. He loved being outside, fishing, riding four wheelers and all his farm animals, creating beautiful memories of laughter and joy alongside his brother, Jax and sister, Kadence.
His tenderness extended beyond just his hobbies; it was evident in the love he shared with his family. Malikai is survived by his parents Travis and Sara (McWherter) Petty, who cherished every moment with him. He is also dearly missed by his siblings Jax and Kadence, who will carry the special bond they shared with them in their hearts forever; his grandparents Randy and Sandy Langley, along with a large extended family of aunts and uncles and cousins who are left with fond memories that will resonate deeply as they navigate through this life without his bright presence.
As we remember Kai, we celebrate not only the joy he brought into our lives but also express our heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated doctors and nurses at Helen Devos Children’s Medical Center, as well as the team of Compassus Hospice in West Branch whose care was a source of comfort during this journey. Also, thank you for all the love and support to the people in the West Branch community.
Though his time was brief, Malikai’s spirit will live on in the adventures, laughter, and memories shared by all who loved him. He may have departed this world too soon, but he will forever remain a cherished part of our hearts and be a reminder that life is too short. So, love and embrace the little joys in life.
