Marcel Victor Van Dam, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in West Branch, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on April 6, 1944, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, Marcel’s life was characterized by integrity, kindness, and a profound sense of responsibility to his family and community. He lived in Prescott, MI since 1997, formerly of Marine City, MI.
Marcel was the proud owner of Van Dam Masonry, where he built not just structures, but a reputation for integrity and craftsmanship. Never one to remain idle, he also worked alongside Hallmark Pools, where he formed lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike. After many devoted years in the industry, he retired in 1997.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marcel’s greatest passions shone through in his personal life. He cherished time spent outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, or restoring old cars—activities that exemplified his appreciation for both nature and tradition. Yet, of all his interests, none matched his passion for being a grandpa and great grandpa. His family recalls countless cherished moments, laughter, and the steady reassurance of his presence.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Jose) Fanego; son, Richard (Marnie) Van Dam, loving companion, Diane Ketchum; grandchildren, Morgan (Ed) Przybylo, Jenna Van Dam, Marcel “Marc” (Virginia) Van Dam and Ryan Van Dam; great grandchildren, Edward and Theo; sister, Madeline Smith; and several half siblings.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marcel and Arlene (Mason) Van Dam and son, Marcel (Jeanie) Van Dam.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
