Patricia Ann Sweet, age 76, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Medilodge in Sterling, MI. She was born on November 24, 1949, in Flint, Michigan to Chester and Pearl (Vunck) Buys.

Patricia graduated from high school in Grant, MI at the age of 17, stepping into the world with a determined spirit. After graduation, she devoted two years to serving as an x-ray trainer, a role that revealed her passion for healthcare and education. Always eager to expand her knowledge, she attended Muskegon Community College, where she earned her associate’s degree.

Patricia began working at Grant Hospital during the weekdays, then brightened the weekends with her presence at a bakery in Bailey, Michigan. She later moved to Prudenville, MI, where she worked at the hospital in Traverse City as an x-ray technician and extended her skills by training to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

She married Richard Bitely on October 9, 1968. Richard served in the Army during the Vietnam War, and his life was tragically cut short in an auto accident shortly after his service.

In her later years, she found a new chapter in Sterling, Michigan, where she embraced her community, forming meaningful friendships and rediscovering happiness. Sterling became her cherished home.

Patricia is lovingly remembered by those who remain in her life: her brother, Rick Sweet and his wife Gayle; her sister, Janet Short and her husband Alan; and many family members who hold close the memories of her kindness and spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Austin Sweet, and her husband, Richard Bitely.

A private burial was held at Brookside Cemetery in West Branch, MI.

She will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of all whose lives she graced.
