Richard Vern Hidey III

July 16, 1971 — December 27, 2025

Richard Vern “Rich” Hidey III, also known to many as “Scout,” age 54, of St. Helen, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, after a brief battle with cancer.

Rich was born on July 16, 1971, in Flint, Michigan. He was a proud graduate of Clio High School and spent his life as a true jack of all trades. Whether working on cars, building with his hands, or tackling a problem others couldn’t solve, Rich had the rare ability to turn his hand to almost anything. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and believed strongly in doing a job right, with care, precision, and integrity.

Rich was very active and independent, a man who loved life and lived it fully. He cherished time spent with his wife, Terri, especially riding together whenever possible. He loved being on the water, working with his hands, and enjoying the simple things that mattered most to him. He liked to be dressed neatly, his hair just right, and always carried himself with confidence and pride.

Above all, Rich loved his family deeply. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and his love for his children and grandchildren was evident to everyone who knew him. Family time was never an obligation to Rich — it was a joy.

Rich shared a strong bond with his brothers as a founding member of the Iron Mustangs Motorcycle Club of St. Helen, where he served in almost every billet and as a past president. He built many clubhouses and mentored many new members. He held everyone to highest standard. In that role, and in everyday life, he was known for his leadership, loyalty, blunt honesty and commitment to those around him. The brotherhood he shared with fellow riders was built on mutual respect, trust, and lasting friendship.

Rich is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Terri Lynn Hidey; his children, Travis (Tina), Josh (Shasta), and Zachary (Jules); and his cherished grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Bonnie Montague; his sisters, Connie White (Steve) and Tina Allison (Brian); his brother, Wayne Montague (Tonya); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Montague, his grandparents, and his beloved nephew, Dustin Montague.

A Celebration of Life will be held on December 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Northern Light Church, located at 9785 E. Madison Rd., St. Helen, MI 48656. Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Homes will handle the arrangements. Scott Marshall, Pastor, will officiate the service.

Rich will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, his leadership, his attention to detail, and most of all, his love for his family. He was deeply respected, genuinely loved, and will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
