Thomas F. Young, affectionately known as Tom, passed away peacefully at his home on September 18, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 19, 1936, in Reese, Michigan, he was the son of Willard and Rose Theresa (Petricevic) Young. Tom lived a life rich in both family and experiences, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and storytelling.
Throughout his career, Tom dedicated many years of service to the Defoe Shipyard in Bay City, Gollin’s Cement and Supply in Munger and Michigan Gypsum in Whittemore. He embraced his work with a strong sense of commitment, evident in his tireless efforts and contributions to the community.
Tom cherished spending time outdoors, a passion that was evident in his hobbies of hunting, fishing, and sharing stories from his youth. His love for adventure was often celebrated as he drove his beloved truck, charmingly named "Tommy Tucker." With his heart for exploration, he enjoyed countless rides through the woods, always embarking with no set destination, just out exploring. His journeys frequently included trips to the Upper Peninsula and memorable outings to the casino with his beloved wife, Patricia.
Tom is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Young, and their children: daughter Suzanne (Fredrick) Stein and son Brian Young. His family continued to grow, and he took immense joy in the presence of his grandchildren: Thomas Fredrick Stein, Marci Jo (Scott) Mausolf, Ryan Michael Stein (Sherri), Tyler Brian Young, and Ozzy the Newfoundland. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Britney Shae O'Neil, Miranda Ruth Mullally, Briar Mullally, Myranda Sue Stein, Hudson Stein, Brieana Mausolf, and Amelia Stein, as well as a great-great-grandfather to Shae Lynn O'Neil, Teddy O'Neil, and the new baby Mullally.
Additionally, Tom is remembered by his sister, Patricia Ann Stange, and his in-laws Lucille Parrent, Jeannie DeClerck, and Dale Horner, along with many nieces and nephews who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Willard “Tom” Young and Rose Teresa Young, his sister Joann Jean Young, his granddaughter-in-law Heather Marie Stein, and several in-laws, including Francis "Punk" Parrent, George DeClerck, and Lawrence "Mouse" Horner.
As we remember Tom, we celebrate a man whose life was filled with laughter, love, and adventure. His stories, humor, and devotion to family will forever remain cherished in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a remarkable husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
