William Leslie Allen, also known affectionately as Bill, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at his home in West Branch, MI, at the age of 85. He was born on May 23, 1939, in Hamtramck, MI to Weyman and Helen (Gilsbach) Allen. Bill led a remarkable life filled with dedication to his work, service to his country, and joy found in simple pleasures. He lived in West Branch since 2003, formerly of Woodhaven, MI.
After graduating from John J. Pershing High School in the Class of 1958, Bill embarked on a fulfilling career at Chrysler Corporation, where he devoted many years of hard work until his well-deserved retirement in 1994. His commitment and contributions left a lasting impact on those around him.
Bill honorably served in the United States Navy as an Airman aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard from 1958 to 1960. He continued his service in the Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968, demonstrating his unwavering patriotism and bravery.
In his leisure time, Bill indulged in various hobbies and interests that brought him immense happiness. Whether he was out hunting in the great outdoors, casting a line while fishing, enjoying peaceful boat rides across serene waters, or trying his luck on casino trips, Bill found joy in every moment.
He was a member of the Ogemaw County Amateur Radio Club. His radio call was KC8NNV. Bill was also a member of the Eastern Arenac Sportsman Club, Moose Lodge of Skidway Lake #440, and the Elks in Houghton Lake, MI.
Bill is survived by his daughter Kimberly Allen, sons David (Lindsey) Creagh and Steven Creagh. His memory will also be cherished by his brother Norman Allen, grandchildren Nikolas King, Stefaney King, Brendan Klein, Ava Loan, and Makenzie Loan, as well as great-grandson Kenneth Adams, and brothers in law Ralph Brown and Dale Metz. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janette Allen in 2021, sister Audrey Boesenberg, uncle Les Gilsbach, and sister in law Janice Metz.
