William Edward Schaiberger

William Edward Schaiberger, age 74, of Saginaw, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Born on September 22, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, William was the beloved son of the late William H. and M. Catherine Schaiberger.


William, affectionately known as Bill, proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973 aboard the destroyer USS James E. Kyes in the ship's store. His unwavering commitment and steadfastness in the face of duty were a testament to his character and devotion.


Bill received his education at St. James Grade School and St. James High School in Ferndale, Michigan. He pursued higher learning at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, Kirtland Community College in Roscommon, Michigan, and Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan. Through his dedication to knowledge, he enriched his own life and inspired those around him.


Deeply rooted in his faith, Bill found solace and guidance at the cherished St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Saginaw, Michigan. His unwavering devotion to his spiritual beliefs provided him with strength and comfort throughout his journey.


He had a great passion for politics, history, geography, sports, and reading newspapers. William was known for his extensive knowledge and fantastic memory, particularly when it came to places, people, and the history associated with them. He was fluent in Latin and had studied German. William Schaiberger will be remembered for his inquisitive mind, his love of learning, and his ability to connect with others through his vast knowledge and storytelling. He leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of intellectual curiosity.


Bill is survived by his dear brother, Michael G. (Colleen) Schaiberger of Mesa, Arizona, and his loving sisters, Teresa (Jim) Zambeck of West Branch, Michigan, and Anne (Rodney) Daniels of Whittemore, Michigan. He also leaves behind seven nieces and two nephews, who will forever hold cherished memories of their beloved Uncle Bill in their hearts.


In addition to his biological family, William was fortunate to be adopted as a part of the Murphy family of St. James Church in Ferndale, MI, and Roscommon, MI. The Murphy's, an Irish family of 12, embraced William as one of their own. He spoke highly of the Murphy's and had a special fondness for Mrs. Murphy. William's close bond with Tim, who was both a brother and friend, will be deeply missed by all.


A solemn funeral service, held in reverent remembrance of Bill's life, is scheduled for Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00am at the St. Joseph Parish, 910 N Sixth Ave, Saginaw, MI 48601MI. Visitation will begin before the mass at 10:00am.  Family, friends, and all those touched by his presence are invited to join together in celebrating his life and bidding him a heartfelt farewell.


He will be buried with military honors at the Great Lakes National Cemetery on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 1:00pm. 


The honorable duty of overseeing the arrangements for Bill's final farewell has been entrusted to the esteemed Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home, West Branch, Michigan. Their compassionate guidance will provide solace and support during this difficult time.


Donations can be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Saginaw, MI. and/or the Veterans of Foreign War.


In commemoration of William Edward Schaiberger, a cherished brother, uncle, and friend, let us remember his unwavering dedication to his country, his pursuit of knowledge, and his steadfast faith. May his memory endure as a beacon of inspiration and may his soul find eternal peace.
