Designating a Representative

Unfortunately, in the state of Michigan, power of attorney ceases at the time of death. Your legal next of kin will be responsible and have the right to make all of your funeral arrangements. Often times this is not the person that you would wish to make all of your final plans.

Michigan law now allows you to designate a person to make decisions about funeral arrangements and the final disposition of your body after death. The person designated is known as a “funeral representative”. If you choose not to designate a funeral representative, the right to make these decisions will most likely belong to your closest next-of-kin.

By downloading and filling out the Funeral Representative Designation form, you will be able to choose who will follow through with your final wishes.
